*The Counseling Center will have counselors available throughout the event.
Learning Objectives
By attending this event students will:
1. understand and recognize various mental health issues and suicide risk factors
2. gain the skills to intervene and provide aid/resources to peers.
3. understand how mental health and suicide may impact people differently based on their identity in one or more areas including race, gender identity, ethnicity, veterans/military status, sexual orientation, or disability.
4. Have an awareness of available mental health and suicide prevention resources on campus and in the greater community.
The Alive! Fair | 11AM to 3PM in MSU 218 Multipurpose Room
IMAlive will be hosting four interactive stations included two that focus on different types of mental health issues and their symptoms. Students will be able to see interactive brain scans of each. They will also be hosting two creative artistic stations where students can express themselves and share their personal story, concerns, and positive messages of hope. The hands-on Graffiti Art display allows you to creat your own art expression on a large canvas.
The Alive! Fair will also include campus and community partners hosting interactive tables to discuss mental health. From the community we will be joined by: Family Guidance Center, ruOK Berks, UMPC Community Care, the Greater Reading Mental Health Alliance, & Safe Berks. From the campus we will be joined by United Greek Council, NAMI Kutztown, and the Health & Wellness Center.
Joining us at the fair to specifically discuss how mental health impacts people based on identity or belonging to a particular community is the Multicultural Center, Veterans Center, Disability Services, Women's Center, and LGBTQ Resource Center.
Guest Speaker: The Self-Esteem Doctor, Dr. Simone Alicia | 11AM MSU 218 Mutipurpose Room
Dr. Simone Alicia is a self-esteem coach and Founder of TSED Academy Online. As an experience classroom teacher and former fashion model, Dr. Simone is blazing a powerful trail as a results driven self-esteem coach and keynote speaker. She has practitioner certifications in both Neuro-linguistic programming and metaphysics.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming is an approach used to program brain behavior using language and other types of communication methods. The goal is to "recode" the brain's responses (refocus thoughts), to create new and improved beliefs, feelings, and behaviors.
